Precision in Wind Turbine Mould Transportation: Moving a 140-Foot ODC

Jay Pee Roadways

Transporting a fragile wind turbine mould presents challenges beyond conventional oversized cargo movement. Jay Pee Roadways handled a specialized wind turbine mould transportation project from Oragadam to Dabaspet using a telescopic trailer.

The consignment measured 140 ft long, 20 ft wide and 19.2 ft high, with a weight of approximately 36 metric tonnes. Its irregular structure created a major seating challenge, requiring selected portions of the mould structure to be altered and dismantled so it could be safely positioned on the trailer.

Bridge-clearance restrictions along NICE Road required an alternative route and route modifications. The project also required special toll-opening permissions and careful traffic coordination to allow the oversized vehicle to move without unnecessary disruption to other road users.

The project highlights how successful ODC transportation depends on understanding cargo geometry, selecting appropriate equipment, resolving clearance restrictions and carefully coordinating every stage of the journey.
